Even though he was still weakened from his fight with Joe, Carlos was KO'ed in the first round and developed permanent brain damage. When he finally faces Yabuki Joe, who is revealed to be punch drunk right before the match, they fight all of the fifteen rounds, taking the fight into decision. Jose wins, but he looks fragile and old - his hair has turned white.
