Obama Mifuyu is the gunnery officer of the Imperial Japanese Navy heavy cruiser Unebi. As quite possibly its only heterosexual crewmember - certainly out of the main cast - her job is full of Freudian symbolism. She's a glamorous blonde with princess curls who is prone to getting too hot and removing rather more of her uniform than regulation permits. She seems to end up working the nighttime watch a lot, and getting very grumpy about getting her sleep; you do NOT want to cross her when sleepy. Prone to uttering the words, "I need a MAN!"

Her behavior in Chapter 8 when she does find a man may indicate why she's been put on an all-woman warship in the first place - to keep her out of trouble.

For all her complaining otherwise, she's lethal at her job.
