Ruby

Age: 12 (Emerald Arc), 15 (Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Arc) Birthday: July 2 Blood type: O Eye color: red Hair color: Black Hometown: Goldenrod City Region: Johto Ruby is the main protagonist of the Ruby & Sapphire arc and recurring character of the Battle Frontier arc of the Pokémon Adventures manga. He first appears in Volume 15. Originally from the Johto region, he moved with his mother to Hoenn to live closer to his father Norman, the Gym Leader of Petalburg City. Despite being a Gym Leader's son, Ruby hates battling and prefers Pokémon Contests. Ruby began the series as a vain and condescending young man who did have a good heart deep down inside. The day he arrived in Hoenn was his eleventh birthday. On that very day, he ran away from his new home since he thought Norman would not endorse his choice to be a Pokémon coordinator. This was true at first, but Norman had decided to let Ruby become a Coordinator when the boy turned eleven. Sadly, Ruby did not stay to find this out. After running away, he met Sapphire, the daughter of Professor Birch. They made a bet with each other—they would both travel around Hoenn, each trying to achieve their respective goals in eighty days—he would try to win every Contest and she would try to win all eight Badges. His first three Pokémon are a Poochyena, Skitty, and Ralts, but he lends Ralts to Wally and due to an earthquake which sends Ruby into a raging river, he did not get her back until much later on. Ruby, along with Sapphire, underwent an outfit change at the end of Volume 19. It is later discovered that under his cap is a scar he received from a Salamence years ago in Johto when he met Sapphire. He also has had a crush on Sapphire since he first met her in Johto and confessed that to Sapphire at the end of Volume 21. Ruby may dislike Pokémon Battles, but he is in fact an extremely capable Pokémon Trainer in his own right, possibly as strong as or even stronger than Sapphire is. At the age of six, he actually liked climbing trees and Pokémon Battles. However, when he injured himself while protecting Sapphire from Salamence, the girl became frightened and cried. Ruby assumed there and then that the reason Sapphire was scared was because he fought too fiercely and too wildly. From that day onwards, he forsook Pokémon Battles, choosing only to Battle when no one else was watching him. (Source: Wikipedia, Bulbapedia) Main Team Nana (Japanese: NANA) was given to Ruby as a Poochyena from his father, Norman. During Ruby's adventure, she evolved into a Mightyena at the Granite Cave. She has an Adamant nature and is used in Cool Contests. Kiki (Japanese: COCO) was given to Ruby as a Skitty from his father, Norman. During Ruby's adventure, she evolved into a Delcatty at the Granite Cave. She has a Naive nature and is used in Cute Contests Mumu (Japanese: ZUZU) was first used by Ruby as a Mudkip to defend himself from an angry Sapphire. After the misunderstanding had been cleared, Ruby kept Mumu on his team and used him in Contests. During Ruby's quest, Mumu eventually evolved into a Marshtomp and a Swampert. He has a Relaxed nature and is used in Tough Contests Fofo (Japanese: POPO) used to belong to Mr. Stone, but she was given to Ruby after the Weather Institute battle with his father. Feefee (Japanese: MIMI) was fished by Ruby on Route 118 as a Feebas, much to his disgust. After saving Ruby and a Swimmer from some wild Pokémon, Ruby reluctantly added her to his team and used her in Beauty Contests. During the battle with Archie and Maxie, Mimi evolved into Milotic after Ruby realized that she had inner beauty. Rara (Japanese: RURU) was also given to Ruby by his father as a Ralts. She was intended to use in Smart Contests, but was separated from Ruby after being lent to Wally. During his training with Norman, Rara had evolved into Kirlia under Wally's care, much to his frustration because he didn't properly own her. After the battle with Groudon and Kyogre had ended, Rara was returned to Ruby. In the Emerald chapter, Rara faced Emerald's Dusclops in battle, which ended in a tie. In the beginning of the Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire chapter, while training with Sapphire's Kiruru, she evolved into a Gardevoir. She has a Gentle nature.
