Chie Shinohara is an award-winning shoujo mangaka best known for Red River (Sora wa Akai Kawa no Hotori). She has twice received the Shogakukan Manga Award for shoujo, in 1987 for Yami no Purple Eye and in 2001 for Red River. She indulges a lot in horror-fantasy stories, putting a strong focus on plot rather than character. Her art is clean and action-intensive, often dipped in an eerie romantic vibe. She is particularly good at drawing flying or floating stances - perhaps that's why water and liquid usually take center stage in her creations.
