One day, a terrible disaster struck the world, known as “the Great Sinking,” plunging the world into a sea and filling the sea with machine fish. Wadatsumi is a young girl that lives on a small island with only four other people, and spends her days diving and fishing. But then she happens to encounter a strange girl one day, who hands her a strange octopus machine named Izanagi that attaches itself to Wadatsumi’s wrist. At that moment, a band of pirates attack Wadatsumi’s island in search of the girl, and it’s then that Wadatsumi discovers two things: her island aren’t the only people in the world, and Izanagi bestows her strange powers...
