The story follows an apprentice witch called Chelby Rose and a scarecrow called Kurou. As ordered by the Head Witch, she must choose a familiar in a bid to succeed her. As her own intentions to choose a scarecrow as a familiar are discussed since "scarecrows are useless", her familiar takes care of her as she immerses herself in endless research while having his own issues, such as looking for a purpose in life, despite the conflicts that arise between her and the other apprentices.
