In the supernatural realm of Death City, there is the Death Weapon Meister Academy run by none other than Shinigami (Grim Reaper) himself! At this academy, students train in teams as Demon Weapons (individuals who can turn into weapons) and their Meisters (those that wield them) with the goal of consuming 99 wicked human souls and 1 witch soul. After this, they become Death Scythes—weapons worthy of being wielded by Shinigami. Maka Albarn is a Meister partnered with her friend and scythe Soul Eater, and they aim to be the academy’s top students. They’re not the only ones, of course—their rivals include the assassin Black Star with his ninja weapon Tsubaki, and perfectionist Death the Kid with his twin pistols Patty and Liz. But the road to their dreams is further than they thought, and they soon become caught up in deathly battles of madness that threaten all of Death City—and the world.
